Q: My Acer notebook has a stripe down the screen and is pixelly at the bottom?
I got an Acer notebook as a gift about a year ago. I'm not sure what series it is. It is a 40 GB hard drive and I just cleaned it up so it has around 13 GB free space. It has been running pretty smoothly. However -- the screen has a strip of darker colour running down the middle of it, and when I look at photos they're all distorted underneath this damaged strip of screen. Also, the start bar is stretched and all the icons are enlarged and pixelly. Does anyone know what this is? Should I get it serviced, or is there something I can do?

A: does the band change or is it there all the time. i mean, does it move? I had a similar problem where i had these dark bands across my computer monitor. the bands changed to whatever was on the screen. it ended up being my graphics card. hope you get it fixed.

Q: Why is the keyboard not working on my ACER Notebook?
My ACER notebook is 19 months old. I replaced the hard drive one month ago. Now, nothing on the keyboard works. The computer boots up, however I can't use the mouse or any keys. I can't even go into startup (F1) when booting up to tell it to read A Drive to reload my software. Is there any easy solution other than a piece of hardware good and screwed up? If someone knows the solution, is it feasible to spend the money to repair?

A: you might wanna try connecting an actual keyboard into your laptop to check if the pc is good as a whole or is it just the keyboard that's causing the problem. If the connected keyboard worked, remove it again then try to clean your laptops' keyboard. Use a brush because most of the time, those dust and little things might have piled up in your keyboard. Just try to clean it thoroughly, then let's hope it will work afterwards. I honestly don't know how much would be the repair cost, if worse comes to worst.

Q: Which is the best Acer Notebook for gaming?
I own a Acer Extensa 4620Z and I want to purchase a new notebook for gaming. I was wondering which notebook you would say from Acer would do the best as far as gaming.

A: The Aspire 9920 because of its 20.1" display and as of now, it has the best video card Acer can offer - GeForce 8600 GT. If you don't want the huge display, you can check out Aspire 5920G. I think it has a 15.4".

Q: Acer Notebook?
I recently bought an Acer TravelMate 5720G. On the first day of using it, there were graphical errors, such as black spots on the screen, weird lines and colour mix ups. Not long after - I got the blue screen of death which told me my graphics driver was stuck in an infinite loop. This has happened to me three times now, and it cannot be fixed, nor has any official statement been released. On the Taskbar down the bottom of the screen, sometimes I cannot expand the system tray, sometimes I can, YES I should be able to through the settings. Also my startup folder sometimes opens two times over; some settings refuse to change; my fingerprint scanner, when prompting me to swipe my finger sometimes opens up 20 dialog boxes telling me to do so; my webcam cannot be found sometimes, my fingerprint scanning program sometimes uses 50% of my computer to run (on Dual Core2 2.2GHz) and changing options takes ages in some areas. Don't need help - just post your opinions.

A: I would reinstall the version of windows that you are using. Several options are available. Some laptops come with Restore Cd's. Some with a recovery partition. Some with just the Operating System disk. I would back up all your files, then restore it to the way it came out of the box. This is the easiest way to address all the problems you are having. Most likely you are running Vista Home Premium there should be a disc that you can put in your computer and boot off of to bring you to the installation options. I would recommend a fresh install to ensure all your old data is erased and your computer is at its factory defaults. Just like out of the box. Don't listen to the people who say its Crap or send it back. Most of the time if its a software problem its not covered under the warranty. These people need to learn what they are talking about. By you fixing it yourself, you learn how to fix problems and learn not to be afraid of repairing your own computer. I was a The Easy Mobile Tech for Staples and the price for me to fix it would be at the very least $175. You can easily do this yourself for free. Good luck. Email me if any other questions. -----------Steven So, g_insane here says that acer is crap. Thats his own opinion. Ive been in many corporate companies that uses Acers for there workstations and the sales people use the laptops for their on the road travels. No matter what computer you have something will go wrong. Its like a car. You have to maintain it and treat it well and it will usually last a while. Peoples reviews arnt always the best way to say a product is crap. Many people who write reviews dont have anything nice to say mainly because not many people will write about their good experiences. They rather write reviews on a product that failed. Keep that in mind. I know many stores that wont take the laptop back after 2 weeks. Ive worked for them. Hopefully they let you return it if you are in their policy range Good luck in what ever you decide. However software issues are not under warrenty in many cases by the manufacturer.

Q: How to open the bottom cover of the notebook Acer 4420?
I want to replace the HD in my notebook Acer Extensa 4420. I removed the five screws but the bottom cover does not detach from the case. Would somebody knows how to detach the bottom cover without damaging it?

A: Usually there is a separate door for the hard drive, two screws at best. I looked at Acer's website: http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/portal20.cfm?website=AcerPanAm.com/us&siteid=7293&areaid=7&formid=3425&LINKTEXT=Guides%20%26%20Manuals But their website seems to be down at the moment. If it comes up, you can download the service manual for your laptop, and see how to replace the hard drive.

Q: Trying to find CMOS battery in Acer Notebook?
I have an Acer Aspire 9402 notebook. The CMOS battery is going on it and want to change it. Notebook in almost 3 yrs old, and no longer under warranty. Acer is totally useless in answering my request to a diagram. They want 445$ and have me ship it to CA. I can't find a diagram anywhere online. Can anyone help please?

A: Before you dive into a notebook, you need a service guide. Here's an image from one such service guide: http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/7249/acer00dj0.jpg The RTC (CMOS) battery plugs into number 22. If you need to disassemble anything, see the rest of the 9420 service guide. I can't link to it, but you can find it through Google.

Q: What do you think of the Acer Aspire notebook?
I ordered a Acer Aspire 5570 notebook. It will only be used for internet surfing. Was this a good choice? This may sound like a stupid question, but is there any way to transfer data from my old notebook to the new one? Needless to say, I don't know much about computers!!

A: there lineup suggestions 4 u to follow, I mean to transfer the data from the original one to the Acer, 1. Burn the data to the CD/ DVD disc , and then copy the data to the Acer. 2. Copy the data 2 the removable disk, and then copy to the Acer notebook. Also I think it's enough for the internet surfering.....

Q: Anyone know where to find a video controller (VGA compatible) driver for a Acer 3100 notebook?
I have a Acer 3100 notebook that was not running at all... It came with Vista's. I installed the Windows XP instead. Now, I cannot find the driver for the video controller anywhere. I am also having problems finding the driver for the USB. Please help me. Thanks.

A: first you need to find out what your video card is, or if its on your motherboard. When you find that out either go to ATIs site, Nvidia's or your motherboard's and look for VGA drivers.

Q: How do I change the screen size on a Acer 5100 Notebook?
A friend of mine owns a Acer 5100 notebook and her daughter played a video game on it that changed the screen size. It now has black bars running vertically on both sides of the screen. She tried changing the settings in both the control panel & by right clicking on the desktop (properties). By the way, She has Xp. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!

A: If your friend has tried both of those things after restarting the computer, then it sounds as if the issue might be with the video driver. She would need to find out what type of video card she is using and obtain the drivers (which can be done through the internet) and re-install them.

Q: How long is Acer notebook warranty?
I bought my Acer notebook in March of 2006. How long is the warranty? Also- where is the laptop serial number located? There are two numbers behind the battery (on the laptop, stuck using stickers, one pink and one white) ... and neither of them were accepted by the online thing on Acer's website.

A: All Acer products come with a standard one-year warranty. However, you may have an extended warranty through the company you purchased it. The serial number is located on the bottom of the laptop on a white barcode sticker. It will start with an LX. All of the "o"s are actually the number 0. Make sure that you are typing 0 and not o. Q: Is there any way to upgrade integrated graphics on my acer notebook?
I have SIS Mirage graphics on my aspire notebook and am unable to play some of my pc games. Is there anything I can do to upgrade this notebook? Any help is much appreciated.

A: No- integrated graphics are a part of the motherboard and can't be upgraded without changing the motherboard, which is less cost effective than buying a new laptop. You can add more RAM, and that may alleviate some or all of your woes.

Q: How much should I sell my ACER Travelmate 4404 Notebook for?
I purchased my 'ACER Travelmate" notebook last december which includes: 3 USB ports, DVD BURNER, AMD TURION 64 3400, 1G RAM, 120 GB HD, ATI X700, WLAN, 15.4 WXGA, XPP. What is a reasonable asking price?

A: Used computers/lap tops are not worth much as they are out dated almost as fast as they are sold. You might get half or less than you paid. Look at auctioning it off on E Bay or sell in a local classified. You can look on e-bay and compare what your brand is selling for used. Hope this helps

Q: I have a Celeron M 430 processor in my Acer notebook. What other processors are interchangeable with it?
I just got a new computer, but I don't like the operating speed of 1.73 GHz. I'm having trouble getting information about what CPU's will work in my notebook. Isn't there a table somewhere showing interchangeable CPU's? I've seen website showing how to upgrade the CPU's in a laptop, but nothing to show how to select them.

A: First of all, is not a PROCESSOR, in laptops is a MICROPROCESSOR, and there's no way to change it like you see in desktops. This little guy is embeded on your MB, and you can't remove it. The only way to make a laptop a little faster is by giving a large amount of memory to it and keep it clean, that means DEFRAGMENTING files and throwing out garbage... the list goes on.
