Q: I just reinstalled XP On my Dell notebook, and my Games applications, and some accessories are not there?
So, only some of my applications are not there, such as my Calculator, and also, my games folder (Solitaire, Hearts, ect.) Is also gone. Is there something I missed upon installation? Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you. P.S. I had to Re-install windows due to a virus that took over my desktop wallpaper, and continuously bombarded me with pop-ups that wanted me to install phoney Anti-virus and Spyware programs,

A: Most of the Windows applications are installed usually. But if they are not installed by default, you can get them by opening Control Panel>Add Remove Programs>Add Remove windows components>Accessories.. Check the boxes you want to install and click OK.

Q: I am looking at buying a Dell notebook. I have a PC now & am with Yahoo thru AT&T.?
But with a notebook, how do I get internet service? And what is the best service for the buck? I am computer illiterate so I have no idea how notebooks work but I need it for schooling and for my son to use as well. Is Dell good to go with? Right now I'm just looking at prices and warranties. I'll take any and all suggetions! I have $1000 to spend for a notebook and accessories. Thanks for your help!!

A: Get one from the Dell Inspiron series. They are great all round computers for the money. If you have a DSL internet connection already you'll need a wireless router, unless you have a wireless gateway already (that's a DSL modem and router in one) the laptop will already have a wireless card fitted. AT&T support will help you how to set it up if you need help. It's really easy. FYI I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 with AT&T Yahoo DSL and it works great!

Q: Can u upgrade parts(dvd drives, hard drives) on a dell notebook or do you have to send the notebook away.?
i have a c600 latitude notebook, pentium3 GHz, with a40gb hard drive,..I want to know if I brought my parts and accessories from Dell, could I have a tech guy install it, or would I have to send the notebook to the manufacturer.

A: dvd drive memory and HD yes, the rest nope

Q: What is an Assembly Reserved Battery sold by dell?
Dell has Assembly Reserved Battery listed under notebook accessories. what is it? It's much cheaper than any other battery, and no description is offered.

A: It's just a larger battery that you can optionally purchase for your system. Usually they fit the entire bottom of the system much like a docking station/port replicator. They are quite handy if you are in need of extended battery life for long trips, or extended periods of time away from an electrical outlet. Hope that helps!

Q: microphone won't work for Dell notebook centrino/XP. see details.?
My mother is trying to talk with me over MSN messanger. Using a headset plugged into correct jacks. Everything works except I can hear her and there is no response on the level indicator either. I told her to go to volume control in rograms/accessories/entertainment, to check if it is muted... but "Microphone" is not for some reason. My guess is there's no driver for it. But I don't know how to fix it and she lives very far away. Any ideas?

A: With Yahoo, you have a Audio Configuration Wizard that would help you to check your connection with the Yahoo sound server. I'm not too sure about MSN, but let me try. The first link given below seems to have some step-by-step instructions for MSN Messenger, even though this is for how to make a video call. The Messenger Plus freeware seems to be an alternative that you and your mother might find useful, which you can download from the second link. There were 254,000 results that I got for this item and the first couple of dozens of them were software plug-ins and add-ons or stand alone that were as pricey as 299 $ [USD]!? Out of the whole lot that I researched, the two sites given below seemed to be the best bet. May I also suggest that you kindly try the MSN help option on your Messenger? All the best. Cheers

Q: Does this Dell Inspiron notebook sound pretty good or should I wait a year? Here are it's tech details?
I want to get a laptop within a year.. is this a good one? How much would you imagine this costs? A: The specifications are not bad, I have a smaller HD then that one (60GB myself) and I've only used half of it so far. Unless you're going to be using it for something specific that will require a lot of memory, I don't think that'll be a problem. However, coming from a previous owner of a Dell notebook, I wouldn't buy any more notebooks from them. When my notebook had problems (about 3 months afterwards it started), I had to fight with them to use MY warranty that I paid for. Their tech support is terrible service and they really don't seem to care about what happens AFTER you purchase their products. To each his own I guess.

Q: When buying notebook RAM, how important is it to match the "logical type" and what does it mean?
I'm trying to upgrade my notebook RAM. It's a Dell, and I could just buy from the Dell website, but it's expensive. This is the link to the Dell memory. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0743848 I want to know how important it is to match the logical type 128 x 64 and what it actually means. Other, cheaper sites have RAM that match every aspect of my notebooks RAM but say nothing about logical type, so I want to know if it's important or not.

Q: increasing speed for my notebook?
does that mean increasing ram? will this make my notebook go faster: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0743535 thanks

A: Increasing RAM will greatly increase the speed of your computer. But $165 seems a lot for 1 GB of ram. I like using newegg.com to buy RAM. I bought 2 Gigs for $150 for my macbook. But you need to make sure you get the right type of RAM and make sure you know the max amount of RAM you can use on your computer. That information should be on dell.

Q: What is the difference between a 12 cell lithium ion battery and a 8 cell lithium ion battery?
I need to purchase a battery for my inspiron 5100 (dell notebook). On the dell site they are selling the following two types: ---> 1) 8 cell lithium ion battery http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?TabPage=techspecs&sku=310-5205&spagenum=&category_id=5438&brandid=&k=&c=us&l=en&cs=19&mnf=&prst=&prEnd=&mnfsku=&orderby=&searchtype=&pageb4search=&page=productlisting.aspx&instock=&refurbished= ---> 2)12 cell lithium ion battery: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?TabPage=techspecs&sku=312-0079&category_id=4116&brandid=56&c=us&l=en&cs=19 Which one should i buy?? Besides the obviously cheaper one, i can't seem to understand what pros and cons one battery has over the other....please help!

A: I just looked at those for like five minutes. I might be stupid but i cant see why the 12 cell is cheaper. The more cells, the longer a batteru lasts. So, as long as you are posotive that both are compatable with your notebook, id go with the 12 cell. Also they sell refurbished batteries on ebay for half the price. You should check it out.

Q: Laptop Specs - What do they mean?
I am customising the Dell XPS M1710 Notebook and would greatly appreciate it if someone could explain what the following accessory is (I tried finding out on the Dell website but couldn't find what I wanted)? UK - Dell Wireless 5510 Mobile Broadband HSDPA Express Card Also, what the difference is between: A Intel® Pro Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g Mini-PCI Card (for Core 2 Duo Processors) and Intel® Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-Card (for Core 2 Duo Processors) Thank you, I'm having great difficulty trying to find out what specs suit me best (there are many more accessories listed that I haven't a clue about, is this a sly marketing tactic or am I just not knowledgeable enough?)!

A: A Intel® Pro Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g Mini-PCI Card: 54Mbps speed Intel® Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-Card(recommended): 108Mbps speed (double) this one is faster than 100Mbps wired connections. That broadband card allows you to connect wirelessly to mobile communications such as verizon, sprint, cingular, etc. You will have to pay for access to this service through one of those companies.
