I am student of architecture from europe on study visit in Boston and would like to buy notebook (preferably dell) there is a problem they dont deliver in hotels. Is there any good computer store i could buy it? thanks!

A: wallmart always has a good deal on notebooks, or you could go to staples, but your going to pay more at staples then walmart

Q: Should I buy a notebook or if I should buy a regular computer with my allowance?
I'm in a dilemma here... I want to go to the fair tomorrow, and I want to get a pc for myself at the same time - So.. I have pretty much enough money for either the notebook or the computer, but for monthly. The notebook costs 24$ per month (799$) and the Computer costs 17$ per month (549$) However, I can customize the notebook's colors, not the Computer's. They both have Vista, and the offer ends for the notebook on the 8th (two days away) and the offer ends on the computer on the 31st, the notebook has a webcam and earbuds, while the pc doesn't. The notebook has more stuff, computer costs less... Which should I buy? I messed up on the question name, sorry.

A: Go with the desktop computer unless you have an overwhelming need for a notebook. Webcams & earbuds cost a neglible amount and can be purchased at Walmart and desktop computers are often far more expandable and have a longer lifespan than notebooks.

Q: is it necessary to buy a notebook with video card to optimize performance?
I plan to buy a notebook and i need advice on this.

A: Notebooks don't have seperate video cards, all versions are on-board. As for gaming, you do need a very good on-board video card. You cannot upgrade it later, so you want to think about it first. User charts like this to help: http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html If NOT playing 3d games (or Cad types programs), then the video card will not change the performace much.

Q: What is the best computer notebook to buy?
I'm looking to buy a powerful notebook with more than 2.5 GHZ processing speed. I am considering a HP. Is that a good idea?

A: Depends on what you want to use your laptop for, and how much you want to pay! Also depends on choice of operating system - Windows or Linux or Apple !!!! In my experience i suggest you take a look at the following which have performed excellently and good to high reliability - - Power Graphics, for Gaming - Alienware - For Multimedia: Sony Vaio - Desktop Replacement, including P4 processor - HP But Heavy and Hot - Portable Laptop, long battery life, for business use: Dell - Ultralite portable: Toshiba Portege - Roadwarrior, Resilient, Longest Shelf and Battery Life, Most Optimized Performance : IBM Thinkpad - Rich schoolkid whose parents buy you a laptop and they have kind hearts but not too much idea of the real world or stuff on computers (or they work in education) - Apple :o) Lowest reliability was Toshiba, then Dell, then IBM and Sony. Some Dell models such as Dell D400 (no longer available new) has been as rock-solid as the Sony and windows XP Professional on it has never crashed. Overall best performer is IBM Thinkpad series, but their speakers are not that good.

Q: What do I need to purchase when I buy a notebook to have wireless internet?
I want to be able to use it anywhere that has wireless...I'm thinking about buying a notebook...any suggustions would be helpful. and about how much will the cost besides the notebook

A: Any new laptop will have built-in wireless, so you won't need to purchase anything for the laptop. If you plan on connecting only to other wireless networks (at the local coffee shop, library, book store, etc.), then you don't have to purchase or do anything at all. Just bring your laptop to where the wireless access is and start it up. Your laptop will automatically recognize the network and try to connect. If, however, you want to set up a wireless network at home, then you'll need to also buy a wireless router. I'd recommend a Linksys Wireless-G router, which will run you $50 to $60. Hook it up properly and you'll also have wireless Internet at home. Assuming, of course, that you already have high speed Internet at home.

Q: What is more important the Intel Centrino capacity or the ram capacity? Can u help me to buy a new notebook?
I'm going to buy a notebook and there are 2 notebooks that I think to buy. 1st one is about 2GHz intel centrino and 1GB DDR ram The other is about 1.6GHz intel centrino and 6.67M DDR ram. The first has more capacity Hard Disk but the other has webcam and mic. I'm confused which one to buy i need help. What is more important the Intel Centrino capacity or the ram capacity?

A: maybe you should buy the first one. the size of your hard drive is important is you're the type that keeps a lot of movies, pictures, music in your pc. a webcam and mic you can always buy an external one. which may be better than the internal one in the laptop. the higher the capacity of the ram, the faster you pc goes. so i think both are important. if u want a fast pc..

Q: What Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook to buy?
I am planning to buy a Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook shortly, but have a few questions that I hope someone here can answer: 1) How do I determine whether to get this laptop brand new or refurbished? 2) Which battery is a better choice, the 6 cell or 9 cell? 3) Typically, what price range should I aim for (I am moderately budget minded).? Also, if there any features y'all reccommend in particular, please let me know, thanks.

A: refurbished will have used parts, and things will probably go wrong. new will be just that, new. 9 cell battery itll last longer budget depends on what you are looking for, standard computing needs, email, IM, basic internet, word processing, shoot for the basics. try and get windows XP, vista is not stable yet. if you have to, buy a license from a local store and completely reformat your computer. (about $100 for the license, more if you have them install it for you) if you keep vista, get at least 2 gigs of ram, large hard drive running at at least 5400 rpm. otherwise it will be slow. 512 meg video card if offered to help with vista too. at minimum 256. WARRANTEE!!!!! get the best and longest warrantee you can. mine goes until 2010, complete protection, and its a good thing too. Dell is in the process of sending me a second replacement for my inspiron 9400, its worth every penny.

Q: Does anyone know where I can buy a lab notebook cheap?
I need an 100-paged carbonless lab notebook for my chemistry class by September 6. Is there any place I can buy it?

A: Any BestBuy will have some deals. I am using one now.

Q: Can I buy a HP notebook that has Vista preinstalled and put XP on it myself?
I am looking to buy a new HP notebook. I currently have a ZD7000, and need a upgrade. I am looking at the HP dv6500t but new HPs only come with Vista on it. All I have heard are horrible things about Vista. Is there a way I can uninstall vista and put XP on it when I get it. Or should I just buy the new Dell 1520 because Dell gives the choice of Vista or XP?

A: http://www.nogodforme.com/HPDV6500T.htm Can be done but you'll need to factor in the cost of the XP install unless you have a shrink wrap lying around. The above link has excellent and detailed instructions taking you through the XP roll back on your chosen HP laptop. If you like getting your hands dirty go for it. Otherwise maybe go for an XP preinstalled alternative like you suggest. I haven't used either machine so can't give you any meaningful buying advice although I have had good experiences with Dell. Did find a side by side comparison of both laptops. http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3808 Also a user review of the Dell. http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsid=3821 Good luck with your chosen purchase.

Q: Whats the best electronic notebook to buy?
Hi i would like to have a small light electronic notebook that can dock with my PC, can anyone recommend some of the features and ones not to buy etc?

A: First of all, NOT a Dell. They are way over rated and their customer service sucks, in my own humble opinion. When you are ready to buy a new system, go to www.stupidcheapcomputers.net. I buy all of my stuff from them. I bought a complete, new system from them with a warranty for LESS than it would cost me to build it myself or order a custom one from the manufacturer. You can use my frequent buyer code: ATX926. That will get an additional 10% discount at checkout. I have NEVER had any problems with anything that they have sold me and their customer service is outstanding. Those guys blow my mind. Good luck!

Q: Where is the best place to buy a notebook computer in Malaysia?
I'm looking for a notebook computer in Malaysia at the beginning of February for less than 3000 ringit. Any suggestions?

A: The best place would be Low Yatt Plaza, Kuala Lumpur else you can head towards their sister branch at Digital Mall, Petaling Jaya. Or else, you can surf online for Dell laptop or HP laptop or even Mac. They do free delivery nowadays. You can have to surf and check it out.

Q: Do you have to buy a new microsoft 2007 if you get a new notebook?
I bought a Microsoft 2007 for students for the computer I have now but I plain to buy a new notebook in the next two months and give this one to a family member. I need to know if I have to buy Microsoft 2007 again ($139.99) to put it on my new book or can I just add on the one have have now.

A: I believe that your version allows it to be installed on three different computers so you should be set.
