Q: What are those computer notebooks called that you can flip the moniter and actually write on it?
like the one on the movie 'Read it and Weep'? Thanks. Thank you everyone! :)

A: It is a tablet Pc. Right now, Hewlett Packard and Toshiba seem to be offering it; hwoever, it is a LOT more expensive. You also need to have Windows XP tablet edition, which is completely different from XP home or pro. I wouldn't buy it just yet, but rather, way until they aren't so new and the price will decrease.

Q: What are some top brands of computer Notebooks?
top brands, good features and great quality, reliable. I'm a college student studying nursing. Creates publications and flyers for work and projects. Into music and video.

A: According to me.. 1.dell(best at the moment) 2.acer (value for money) 3.IBM lenova or sony 4.HP Note:: for students who want to learn computers ...mac sucks! not many things can be done on that. cheers:)

Q: Can any video card go into a notebook computer? Will any fit or is there are special size for notebooks?
I have an aspire 3690 and I want to up grade it's video card. I know that there are different specs for each card but would any card fit because of the size of the notebook compared to a desktop. Also how do I install it?

A: There are, I hear, video cards for the PCMCIA (Also known as PC) Cards. I have never seen or priced one. Good luck with that.

Q: In your activity as scientist do you use notebooks or computer for storing data?
In your research or analysis, do you write your observations on paper or on computer files. I don't talk about editing articles. I talk about day to day work. I think both ways have their own advantages and disadvantages. Thanks

A: All observations are recorded in a notebook referenced to the data file on the computer. Diagrams and such are easiest to sketch out and silly ideas and observations are easily recorded with a pen (sometimes during meetings). Data files can have thousands to millions of individual data points and are easier to manipulate when they stay on the hard drive. Hard copies of plots, pictures and tables should be made and pasted into the notebook.

Q: Which computer companies sell notebooks with spanish keyboards and deliver in the USA?
I'm ready to buy a new laptop, and I would prefer to buy one with a spanish keyboard pre-installed. I have looked at many companies, including Dell, Sony and HP; the Dell Inspiron notebooks are probably what I want to buy, but they only come with the standard QWERT keyboards. Any suggestions for a great laptop with a spanish keyboard? I really don't care if the operating system is in English or Spanish.

A: there are no spanish keyboards installed on most laptops today but there are a couple of ways to make the computer to act more "spanishy" like changing the regional setings for internet content, etc.

Q: With improving technology are laptops/notebooks equal to the computer home desktops now?
I was thinking about purchasing a laptop/notebook and I want to know if they can do everything that a desktop computer is able to do? In the past I've heard that home computers are better than laptops/notebooks. So to all the computer experts please let me know the pros and cons. I'm thinking about actually going Apple for the laptop. Thanks!!

A: Here's some advice Loyola gives their students: It is a matter of personal perference. However, there are advantages and disadvantages to both. The points below are offered to help you think about which you prefer. Laptop Advantages Portable: Most professors will allow students to bring laptops to class. Laptops can be used inside or out, used in the cafeteria, brought anywhere, and can be taken home more easily for vacations. Wireless Network: Some areas on campus are equipped for wireless access. This allows students to access the Internet, check e-mail, or use LOTS from thier laptop without a physical connection to the network. All in One: It's nice to have all computer components attached as one unit. Less Space: A laptop PC takes up very little desk space. A desktop PC pretty much takes over your desk. Laptop Disadvantages Less Powerful: These days laptops are extremely powerful and usually run at speeds comparable to last year's desktop PCs. If you are power-hungry, you can get a little more bang for your buck from a desktop PC. Missing in Action: laptops can be misplaced or stolen much more easily than a desktop PC. More Expensive to Repair: Often times laptops can be more expensive to repair. They are harder to work on, and since the keyboard and display are built in they are more expensive to replace. Desktop (or Tower) Advantages Powerful: You get more power for your money with a Desktop PC. They typically run faster, have more memory and larger drives. Home Repair: If you're up for reading some basic instructions, you can install new components in your own desktop PC. You can also more easily replace items that go bad. Especially easy are the keyboard and display. If you have to take the PC to be serviced, it will be less expensive than a laptop. Desktop (or Tower) Disadvantages Like a Rock: (Very hard to move.) A desktop PC is not designed to be moved around a lot. It is made to sit on the desk. Taking the system apart can take a lot of time, and each unit (system, display, keyboard) needs to be detached and carried. Takes a Lot of Space: A desktop PC is typically very large and will take up a lot of room. Most people dedicate an entire desk to a desktop PC.

Q: Which computer parts or notebooks are good right now for Mac OS X x86?
Which computer parts or notebooks are good right now for installing Mac OS X x86 without running into any major problems?

A: Hi jeffkloy, First off, Apple is a hardware company, so if you want Mac OS X, then you have to spring for Macintosh hardware. As far as USB peripherals, yes you can use most USB things (mouse, trackballs, dongles, speakers, microphones, etc.). You still have to be a little concerned with compatibility but many of these work without drivers. Best of luck to you. --Rick

Q: Does the mouse for notebooks work on an actual computer?
I was just wondering whether a mouse meant for a laptop works on a regular computer?

A: a mouse is a mouse is a mouse ... the only thing that will notice the difference is your cat A Laptop mouse usually only differs in size ... for portablility ... of course it will have to be a USB mouse to work on both (unless it's an old lappy with a PS2 port)

Q: when i stream netflix videos on to my computer notebook I can view the movie and hear audio on computer speake?
but when i connect hdmi cable from computer notebook to my hdtv I can only view the movie but no sound comes out of my tv speakers. what is the problem.

A: There are 1 or 2 settings in your laptop/notebook to change (depending on your Operating System). See... http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=change+computer+settings+to+watch+netflix+on+TV&btnG=Search (if Y! removes the link, google/search "change computer settings to watch Netflix on TV", and start reading. If you're still stumped, write Clif.Notes at FreewareWiki.com. The changing of computer settings can be a headache to the some people, and this is probably why the Xbox (with HDMI) or other Netflix access box is getting to be so popular.

Q: What is the best notebook computer to buy?
I took my old laptop in to Best Buy today because it had stopped booting. It is a few years old and they said it is more cost efficeient to buy a new one than to put money into the old one. So, now i'm trying to choose a new notebook computer. I am a teacher but this is my home computer. I want it for music, picture and video playing and editing, School related things (word processing, powerpoint) and internet as well as my financial records etc. I do not want a Mac because it will not be compatible with my computers at school. Any suggestions? What should I be looking for?

A: I would still recommend a Mac, as it can run Windows too, which eliminates any compatibility problems. Music: iTunes Photos and Movies(playing and editing): iPhoto, DVD Player, iMovie Word Processing can be taken care of with; Micorsoft Works (Mac or Windows), iWork (includes Keynote, presentation application that has been supported by many people and touted by many to be better than Powerpoint, and Pages, a very good graphics word processor), or bundled word processor in the OS. A MacBook (ranging from $1100-$1600 mainstream) is a (in my opinion) very good laptop for your needs. It has a more than capable speed, good capacity hard drive, etc. However, in order to run Windows, you must buy a separate copy of it (available at Best Buy) and download Boot Camp from Apple's Website. Do you have a budget for a laptop? That could be (*sarcasm*) helpful to prescribe a laptop. Hope that helped. P.S. If you don't get a Mac, do yourself a favor and don't get a laptop under $600. Their lifespan is very short and you'll find yourself looking for a new machine in less than five years.

Q: Are there any notebook computer backpacks available that are large enough to accomode a fair amount of luggage?
Airlines with single bag carry-on restriction also generally allow one to bring their notebook computer in the portfolio style cases- Fine, but still it is another item to lug around. I am trying to consolidate things into a single padded backpack which can accomodate both computer and some general luggage. Have been through shopping malls and places like Best Buy. Lots of nice packs but after the computer, manual and some file folders are in they are packed full. Who makes a larger bag?

A: I have to travel back and forth from the US to St. Maarten every few months. I have been using a Samsonite laptop bag for about three years & they work great for cramming books, shoes, whatever to avoid those overweight charges on airlines. Here are couple good ones: http://www.computerbags.com/samsonite_sumo.html 2200 cubic inches http://www.computerbags.com/samsonite_groove.html 2250 cubic inches Here is one (not Samsonite) that has 3100 cubic inches! http://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-Products-Powerpack-Travel-Backpack/dp/B0007Q3URC

Q: What are the recommended notebook/computer specifications for architectural students?
What are the recommended notebook/computer specifications for architectural students especially for those who are studying architecture in Australia Unis like Uni of Sydney, UNSW, Uni of Melbourne, Uni of Adelaide or Uni of Queensland? I'll be going there next February Intake.

A: When it comes to your line of study, you need top of the line: processing power, RAM, a fast RPM hard drive, and a very good dedicated graphics card. Most architecture students I know go with Apple laptops--especially when it comes to CAD. You can make do with a cheap laptop to be sure, but you should be using the best of the best, especially if you deal with programs in 3d
